Gonku reminds me of Dad, as I kept giving this fruit a chance because of his persistence. It has a peculiar flavour that is best enjoyed with some sea salt. It took me all the way to my college days to start enjoying its taste. The tender cashews that are obtained at the bottom of the fruit is used to snack on or with a special Tendli/Manoli Upkari

I remember mom used to give us old clothes to change into before eating Gonku as the juice that oozes out generously often stains clothes. The bottom part of the fruit is also very tough to crack open to reveal the tender cashews, and is generally roasted on open flame to crack it open. So a lot of effort goes into enjoying this mother nature’s gorgeous looking gift.
